Townsville Airport has recorded an impressive lift in passenger numbers for the four months through to October. This level of leisure and business airline travel is a reflection of the region’s strengthening economy and represents a recovery from a small decline for the airport in the 16-17 Financial Year.
July was the busiest month in the airport’s history, while October recorded an almost 10% increase in passenger numbers. The fourth month period had a 7.2% increase overall.
This encouraging level of activity for the airport has been attributed to the introduction of two new services in mid-2017. TigerAir has begun services from Townsville, with direct flights to Melbourne, while Air Niugini expanded the airport’s international offering with flights to Port Moresby.
