Water Solution to Boost Local Economy

8 December 2017

Both sides of politics have committed to a $215 million duplication of the Haughton pipeline as a critical solution to Townsville’s water shortage. This project stands to provide an economic boost, with facilitation through Townsville City Council (TCC) ensuring that local firms will be used to complete the work where possible.

TCC have currently opened up an expression of interest process to the region’s steel companies, with the intention that the pipe will be manufactured in Townsville. While this may bring delays to the commencement of work, it will ensure this significant government venture can provide benefits to local businesses and workers.

It is anticipated that the project will be completed by the end of 2019.
