Townsville is set to receive an economic injection as the home of new military combat vehicles and a training simulation facility.
Phase 2 of the Federal Government’s “Land 400” defence deal will include $200 million invested in Townsville for the construction of 52 Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles and a multi-million training simulation facility. It is anticipated that this will create 80 local jobs during the construction phase of this new facility. Opportunities will also be available for local businesses to be involved in the supply chain of the new vehicles' construction.
A further investment of $33 million is also being made to extend the RAAF Base Townsville runway and redevelop two aprons, with this project expected to commence next year and create 150 jobs in the city.
